The Green Smoothie for those who don’t like Green Smoothies

Even the best of us can’t always stomach the bitter green smoothies that are without doubt riddled with immensely nourishing and detoxifying ingredients. Because to be honest, sometimes greens are icky – I get that.

If you’re trying to get your kids (or your man – they usually have the same reaction) to stomach some nourishment in the morning then I’ve got the recipe for you!! This smoothie is thick, creamy and sweet and I’ve never had anybody tell me they can taste the greens.

The Recipe:

1 frozen banana

1 handful of spinach

2 cups of coconut milk

Half a teaspoon of matcha powder

1 teaspoon of honey

Small handful of ice

I usually add in some vegan, all natural vanilla protein which makes it taste like a ridiculously delicious vanilla shake but if you don’t have the protein you could easily add a dash of vanilla for a similar flavour.

Matcha is a concentrated green tea powder. Make sure you get yourself a good ceremonial grade as a lot of powders out there are stripped of their nutrients which is what makes it so cheap. I like Vibrantea Matcha, it’s got a distinctive flavour and is so bright green you know it’s the real deal.

The benefits of having matcha in the morning is that it gives you a pick me up. It’s got caffeine however it doesn’t give you the spikes and lows that coffee does, it just gives you a nice even boost throughout the day. A lot of people that can’t drink coffee due to increased anxiety have no problem with matcha.

The matcha and the spinach provide the green kick your body needs to assist with detox and provide a lot of liver cleansing antioxidants to help your body eliminate waste more efficiently. The coconut milk is softer on sensitive tummies and feels a lot lighter as well as delivering good fats. These fats are metabolized a lot faster as medium chain fatty acids are used by the body at a more rapid rate meaning they’re less likely to be stored as fat.

This recipe allows you and your weeny ones to get a lot of the beautiful nutrients you need in the easiest and fastest way possible. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for a reason. A brekky full of good things sets you up for a day full of good things (ancient proverb).
