22 Jul Cleared for Take-Off: A look at the ‘Banned’ Jordan XXXI
This week Jordan Brand unveiled the first look at the latest addition to its performance basketball range, the Jordan XXXI. The Jordan XXXI flaunts the latest in performance shoe technology, whilst taking design cues from the original Michael Jordan sneaker – the Jordan 1, released 31 years ago.
The Jordan XXXI is sure to bring unprecedented performance to the court with its full-length zoom air unit, flightspeed technology, flywire, one-piece upper and herringbone pattern on the sole.
The ‘Banned’ colour way of the Jordan XXX1 pays homage to the Jordan 1 and its initial colourway. The original black and red colourway of the Jordan 1 was designed to match the uniform of the Chicago Bulls, however due to its lack of white it was outlawed by NBA Commissioner David Stern as a violation to the uniform rules at the time. Jordan was to be fined $5000 every time he stepped on the court wearing the shoes – which he continued to do, changing the landscape of basketball shoes for years to come.
The Jordan XXXI also represents the first time since the original Jordan that the Nike swoosh has appeared on a Jordan shoe, and the first time that the Jumpman logo and swoosh have appeared on the same shoe.
Whether you wear Air Jordan shoes for style or performance, the Air Jordan XXXI has you covered.
The “Banned” colourway will be available globally on September 3 in select retail stores and on Jordan.com.
